Dio performed last night at the Water Street Music Hall in Rochester, NY, along with opening act, the Buttafuocos. Although I had never seen Dio during his peak in the 1980s, I couldn't imagine him putting any more heart into his performances at that time than what he demonstrated in the small venue of only a few hundred people. It is clear that Ronnie sincerely enjoys what he is doing, and that 40 years of music hasn't dissipated a single ounce of emotion from him. I wholeheartedly agree with the writers of some of the other recent reviews in that his voice sounds exactly the same as it did 20 years ago. I unfortunately seem to have the bad habit of discovering how much I enjoy the music of certain bands / artists long after they have been touring for many years, and am therefore unable to create trenchant memories for myself, although I must say the nostalgia certainly seemed to have erupted the emotional volcanos of everyone in attendance last night. Rarely does one see a band return for 3 enthusiastic encores.

All in all, a great show...
